Precise Silicate Determination with the Testomat 808 Silicate
The Testomat 808 Silicate, part of the Heyl product world, is engineered for automated, continuous measurement of silicate (SiO₂). It employs specifically formulated indicators and reagents to analyze geological and water samples with high accuracy and speed, ensuring reliable quantification of silicate levels in drinking water, wastewater, or laboratory settings.
Areas of Application
- Water Analysis / Environmental Analytics
- Drinking Water: Monitoring silicate concentration, as high levels can both protect against corrosion and cause deposits.
- Wastewater: Surveillance of industrial effluents, e.g., from glass, ceramics, or semiconductor production.
- Surface Waters: Environmental monitoring, especially nutrient content in lakes and rivers (silicate is essential for diatom growth).
- Seawater: Measuring silicate for studies of plankton productivity and biogeochemical cycles.
- Industry and Manufacturing
- Boiler and Cooling Water: Silicates can form deposits in pipes and boilers, making precise control vital.
- Glass, Cement & Ceramics: Quality control of raw materials (e.g., quartz sand) and production processes.
- Semiconductor Industry: Ultrapure water must have extremely low silicate levels—detection is indispensable.
- Agriculture
- Fertilizer Analysis: In some soils, silicon acts as a growth stimulant—particularly in rice cultivation.
- Soil Analysis: Determination of plant-available silicate in soils.
- Research and Geochemistry
- Rock Analysis: Quantifying SiO₂ content in rocks for classification (e.g., basalt vs. granite).
- Paleoclimatology: Examining sediment cores for silicate as a proxy for past environmental conditions.
- Hydrochemistry: Analysis of silicate levels in natural springs or thermal waters.
- Medicine / Biochemistry (less common)
- Silica-Based Preparations: Quality control of supplements or cosmetics where silicates serve as binders or carriers.

Original Heyl Testomat 808 SiO₂ Reagent A – Reliable Silicate Measurement First reagent for Testomat 808 SiO₂ measurement The Testomat 808 SiO₂ Reagent A is used to measure the silicate content in water (SiO₂) and is one of the two necessary reagents for silicate measurement with the Testomat 808 Silicate system. SiO₂ Reagent A initiates photometric silicate determination in the Testomat® 808 SiO₂. The measurement range is 0.3–1.2 ppm SiO₂. Reagent A is precisely calibrated to the measurement method of the Testomat 808 Silicate and allows reliable silicate measurement in the range of 0.3 to 1.2 ppm SiO₂. It is ideal for use in RO process water treatment, e.g., in clinical environments. Using the original reagent ensures consistently precise results, which are essential for stable process monitoring. Heyl Original Indicator for Silicate Monitoring in RO Process Water Treatment Using original Heyl reagents ensures not only high measurement accuracy but also proper operation of the Testomat 808 SiO₂ and the retention of warranty and guarantee claims. It is ideal for clinical applications where reliable silicate monitoring is critical. For example, in sterilization of medical instruments, silicate monitoring in RO process water plays a key role in protecting and preserving medical devices. Frequently Asked Questions How long does the indicator/reagent keep? The shelf life of an indicator is printed on the product label for each batch. In accordance with our terms and conditions, we deliver with a guaranteed minimum shelf life of 7 months. How much indicator is used per analysis? When it comes to indicator consumption, a distinction must first be made between TH indicators (e.g. TH 2005, 2025, 2050, etc.), which are used for the Testomat ECO, Testomat EVO TH, Testomat 2000 and Testomat Limit LT analysis devices, and the indicators for the Testomat 808 (300 series indicators, e.g. indicators 301, 305, etc.). The indicator consumption per analysis for the TH indicators is directly related to the limit value to be monitored. The higher this is, the higher the indicator consumption. For the Testomat 808 indicators (300 series), consumption is approximately 80 µl per analysis. By entering the operating data (analysis interval, limit value, etc.), the exact consumption or indicator requirement per year can be determined using our indicator consumption calculator: Indicators - Consumption calculator - Heyl Neomeris What sizes are available for the bottles and is there anything to bear in mind? The indicator is available in both 500 ml and 100 ml bottles. The analyser is delivered with the 500 ml bottle set up and the scope of delivery includes the screw cap with hole and insert for the screw cap of the 500 ml indicator bottle. To use 100 ml bottles, the bottle size must be changed to 100 ml in the basic programming and the screw cap with hole and insert for the indicator must also be purchased (item no. 40143). Where can I find the safety data sheet? You can find the safety data sheets in the online shop (www.heylneomeris.shop) under the menu item – Service / Help – Downloads Safety Data Sheets. How can the indicator be disposed of? Disposal instructions can be found in section 13 of the safety data sheet. Disposal must be carried out in accordance with official regulations. Can the indicator still be used after the expiry date? The indicator can no longer be used after the expiry date. Once the indicator has expired, accurate measurement results can no longer be guaranteed. What is the optimal storage temperature for the indicator? Section 7 of the safety data sheet contains all relevant information on storing the indicator. The recommended storage temperature should be between 15 and 25°C. Device warranty / guarantee Measurement errors when using external indicators! The use of third-party indicators can lead to significant measurement deviations or errors. Damage caused by foreign particles in the area of the dosing pump, measuring chamber or valves is also possible. The use of third-party indicators will void the warranty! Only use original Heyl indicators, which are specially designed to meet the requirements of the measuring devices and thus guarantee accurate measurement results.
